EXPANDING KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION
Many of our target populations have limited access to the development of experience and expertise in the education system. As such, Smile For Sache works to eliminate these barriers by shedding light on these injustices and improving the access to education.
THE SMILE SOCIETY
Through the Smile Society initiative, our youth take part in a multitude of workshops and programs rooted in restorative justice practices that identify how youth can build conflict resolution skills, build healthy relationships, understand the ramification of violence, not only on themselves but their families and communities.
YOUTH OF UNITY RETREAT
The YOU Matter: Youth of unity retreat program was curated to foster unity and belonging amongst young Black youth in Toronto. The activities we planned focused on a few topics surrounding career exploration, mental health, leadership and community building. Each facilitator was specialized in the topic they discussed with a focus on interactive and team building exercises throughout all workshops.
EDUCATION EXPANSION PROJECT IN SOMALIA
With the help of our community partners and local organizations, Smile For Sache continues to empower individuals through education. To expand this effort, we have built a school in a village in Somalia. Take a look at the video to see our progress, next steps, and ways you can help!
THE ADAN DUBET LAW SCHOOL AWARD
An entrance award given to a student at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law's JD program who identifies as racialized and who has demonstrated a commitment to young people in marginalized communities and/or an interest in social justice and human rights law. Adan Dubet was a young Black Muslim student at Toronto Metropolitan University's (Formerly Ryerson University) Ted Rogers School of Business who aspired to attend law school at Toronto Metropolitan University. This award was established in his memory to remind every Black youth to dream big and for each one to teach one.
“I want to express how grateful I am to be a recipient of the Adan Dubet Law School Award. It is difficult for words to convey my genuine appreciation. This award is not only a testament to the hard work that I have put in but to the generosity and humanity of those who created it.”
